Information
How well are you doing in your own Self-Care?
The original assessment has over 70 questions. I pared it down to what I think are the most important areas under each category without any overlap. In this assessment there are 7 pages with 1 category per page and 4 areas of Self-Care to assess per category. You will answer 28 questions total.
This is not a comprehensive assessment, but an introduction to get you thinking about your own Self-Care. This is adapted from Transforming the Pain: A Workbook on Vicarious Traumatization. Saakvitne, Pearlman & Staff of TSI/CAAP (Norton, 1996). I originally found this as part of the University at Buffalo’s School of Social Work Self-Care Starter Kit resource.

Congratulations on taking this step in the Self-Care Revolution!!! No doubt taking this self-assessment has invited you to start thinking differently about your Self-Care already. As I said, this was not a comprehensive assessment, but I do think it’s a very worthy start and the results will give you A LOT of information to move you along!
Look for patterns in your responses. Are you more active in some areas of Self-Care, but ignore others? Are there items on the list that make you think, “I would never do that”? Listen to your inner responses, your internal dialogue about Self-Care, and make yourself a priority. Take particular note of anything you would like to include more in your life.
Overall scoring results
If you scored between a 64-84, you are in FULL SWING with your Self-Care.
This means that you are likely paying close attention to the balance in your life. You know how to take care of yourself and your needs in multiple areas of your life. You understand that in order to help others, you must first take care of yourself. Most importantly, you are taking action! Could you do better? Only you can answer that question. Re-read the bolded paragraph near the top of the page. Listen to your inner voice and be honest with yourself. Do the results of this self-assessment ring true for you? Where can you make changes, even if you are doing really well? Even if there are changes and improvements you can make, the results show that you are putting your knowledge and understanding into tangible action steps!! You are a leader in the Self-Care Revolution and I strongly encourage you to step into the spotlight and bring others along. Who do you know that could use some assistance in this area? Who can you invite to take this Self-Care assessment? Who can you support? Send them this link now: http://www.ellenrondina.com/self-care/
If you scored between a 43-63, you are in MODERATE SWING when it comes to incorporating Self-Care into your life.
This means that you certainly understand that Self-Care is important and sometimes you are paying attention and taking action, though you have room for improvement. How often do you consciously think of Self-Care? How often do you intentionally think of your actions as Self-Care? The results indicate that you may be moving in and out of consciousness when it comes to Self-Care and that you have not reached the point where it is a sustainable priority in your life. Re-read the bolded paragraph at the top of the page and be honest with yourself as you listen to your internal dialogue. Review the assessment and consider the areas for improvement. What jumps out at you? Who do you know that could use some assistance in this area? Who can you invite to take this Self-Care assessment? The Revolution needs YOU and THEM. We need to step up and do this together. We need the support of one another. We need non-judgmental support and accountability. Send someone this link now: http://www.ellenrondina.com/self-care/
If you scored between a 22-42, you are in LOW SWING when it comes to incorporating Self-Care into your life.
This score indicates that you are likely struggling with your Self-Care and that you came to this assessment because you knew you needed help. Welcome to the Revolution!!! We all need each other in this. Re-read the bolded paragraph at the top of the page and consider your answers. What is the truth about your Self-Care? Have you thought much about it? Are you someone who is often on the edge of wellness and dis-ease? The results indicate that you likely don’t have a Self-Care plan and in fact have likely not thought about it very much, at least not enough to take regular action! Looking at your answers, what jumps out at you? Take a moment to consider before moving on. This Revolution is about all of us stepping up to the plate for our own Self-Care, as well as the Self-Care of others. Who in your life needs this? Who can you invite onto the Self-Care Revolution path? Who needs the support and guidance and accountability? Send someone this link now: http://www.ellenrondina.com/self-care/
If you scored between 0-21, you are in FLAT SWING when it comes to incorporating Self-Care into your life.
This score indicates that you are incorporating very little Self-Care into your life and you might be significantly out of balance. Are you feeling unwell? Did you complete this assessment knowing that you need more Self-Care or were you largely unaware? Re-read the bolded paragraph at the top of the page and consider honestly where you stand when it comes to your wellness, balance, and overall Self-Care. Are you ready to be part of the Revolution? Review the assessment and your results and consider where you are on this path and where you want and need to be. Is there anyone else in your life who would benefit from this assessment and consideration? The Revolution needs ALL of us. We ALL need to be focusing on our Self-Care and we ALL need to support each other, wherever we are on the path. Send someone this link now: http://www.ellenrondina.com/self-care/
